Sugar is part of our everyday lives. It is an essential element that gives our body energy. But, what do you really know about it? Do you know that it is responsible for your weight gain and you probably can’t stop craving sugar since it is so addictive?

You might say you are ok with sugar and that you don’t have any problems with it. However, let us explain to you what sugar really is. Sugar is a carbohydrate that provides energy mostly for our brains, muscles, and our vital organs. It helps them function. Nevertheless, sugar consists of calories, and it is nutrient and vitamin-free. That makes it more harmful than beneficial for our bodies and our health.

Too much sugar consumption can be fatal, so take a look at the following issues:

  • Heart, liver, and kidney diseases
  • Acne, wrinkles, and skin aging
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Obesity and weight gain
  • Tooth decay
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer

Dear sugar lover, despite all of these problems sugar can create, do you still think you really need it? Do you know the amount of sugar you consume? If you think that you receive sugar only by eating sweets, I will prove you wrong. Sugar is almost everywhere, in everything you eat and drink. That is probably one of the main reasons why most diets don’t work. When you think you are eating healthy, you are not even aware that lots of products you consume contain sugar and are messing with your diet.

I have listed five types of food groups that contain sugar so you can be more familiar how much sugar you take in. Consuming these products can often lead to weight gain. To avoid that, you must stop craving sugar and be careful with products that contain sugar.

1. Processed Meat

several types of meat

All the processed meat like sausages, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, smoked meat, dried meat, salami, red meat, etc. contain added sugar. These types of meat are very high in calories but low in vitamins and minerals which makes them unhealthy. By consuming processed meat, you might be at risk of getting diabetes. Instead of processed meat, always choose and consume fresh meat. It’s sugar-free, and it is much healthier.

2. Pasta And Bread

There is nothing better than a homemade bread or pasta. The reason is simple – the pasta and the bread from the store contain added sugars. Most of us can’t live without bread, and we combine it with everything. The white bread, and the white pasta we eat, as well as everything else that is made of white flour, is full of sugar. Instead of white flour products, try to use whole grain products. They are much healthier, compared to the white flour products that can cause diabetes.

3. Fruit

Normally, fruits are healthy since they are full of vitamins and minerals. However, they also contain sugar. They are not harmful unless you overeat. If consumed in large amounts, the fructose can have negative effects on your health. Each fruit consists of a different amount of sugar. The trick is to eat fruits that contain less sugar, such as avocado, lemon, melon, raspberries, etc. Bananas, cherries, mangoes, grapes, on the other hand, are some of the fruits which contain high amounts of sugar.

4. Vegetables

Vegetables are no exception from our topic today since they also include sugar. However, they are a group that contains the lowest amount of sugar, compared to other groups. A healthy diet is the one that includes vegetables since they are also a great source of vitamins and minerals our body needs. The vegetables that are the lowest in sugar are broccoli, spinach, lettuce, cucumber, etc.

5. Snacks And Drinks

chips and coca cola

Are you a snack lover? If yes, we are sorry to disappoint you, but almost all the snacks, as well as the drinks, contain sugar. All the yogurts, crisps, candies, sodas, cokes you eat and drink, are high in sugar and contain many calories. They are the biggest troublemakers when it comes to weight gain. If you consume these in large amounts, you might face obesity problems. Stop eating these if you want to stop craving sugar. They are the most addictive among all of the above-mentioned food groups.
